Explore Napa Valley Wine Country Along Silverado Trail

California’s Napa Valley is famous both domestically and internationally for its excellent wines. Silverado Trail is the premier thoroughfare taking you through the gorgeous California wine country.

This road stretches for roughly 30 miles between the cities of Calistoga and Napa. Its northern terminus is at the intersection with SR 29/Lincoln Ave, while in the south, Silverado Trail follows SR 121 for a brief stint before terminating at Soscol Ave.

Silverado Trail was originally built in 1852 as a trail following the destruction of Napa Valley’s original trail in a major flood. During the silver rush, it became an important trade and transportation artery (as evidenced by its name).

The route’s role as a significant traffic channel has since been superseded by SR 29/St. Helena Hwy. That’s not a bad thing, though, as it leaves Silverado Trail as a quieter, scenic road through Napa Valley.

And scenic it certainly is. Every single mile of Silverado Trail is packed with gorgeous surroundings. Grapevine- and tree-covered rolling hills rise up to become more sparsely vegetated, low mountains. Interspersed are flat, green fields of the area’s many vineyards.
