6 Romantic Ohio Hotels for You and Your Pillion Rider

6 Romantic Ohio Hotels for You and Your Pillion Rider

Everything’s more fun on a motorcycle—including spending time with your special someone. Whether you’re riding two-up or sitting in the saddles of separate bikes, motorcycling brings you and your dearest together like few other things can.

Ohio might not be your first state that pops to your mind when thinking of locations for a heart-throbbing holiday. However, the Buckeye State has plenty of fun towns, beautiful scenery, and excellent riding roads for you to explore.

Of course, every romantic vacation requires appropriate accommodations. Here are six romantic Ohio hotels for you and your sweetheart.

Landoll’s Mohican Castle, Loudonville

Luxury and romance go together like a horse and carriage. Landoll’s Mohican Castle in Loudonville offers a thoroughly luxurious stay and pampers you until you feel like royalty.

During his two-year tour in Europe, Army Veteran Jim Landoll fell in love with the Old World’s castles. After a successful career in publishing, he finally constructed this impressive building, which draws inspiration from both European and American building traditions.

Each of the 11 large suites is decorated with a specific theme and comes with fabulous amenities, from jetted tubs to seasonal fireplaces (in certain suites). For more privacy and intimacy, there are also a couple of cottages available.

The on-site Copper Mug restaurant takes care of all your dining needs. For activities out of the hotel (as if you’d feel like leaving), you’re within easy access of the Mohican State Park, the cities of Akron and Columbus, and the Lake Erie shoreline.

Note that to get to Landoll’s Mohican Castle, you’ll have to take a couple of very narrow (but paved) county roads. That just tells you that you and your pillion rider can enjoy your stay in peace, though.

Find it at 561 Township Road 3352, Loudonville, OH.

The Barn Inn, Millersburg

Ohio is famous for its Amish country, and the Barn Inn lets you stay smack-dab in the middle of it. Now, this is not an actual Amish-run establishment, but the red barn structure certainly looks the part.

Inside, you’ll find comfortable, well-sized rooms decorated in an appropriate country style. The surroundings are incredibly quiet and serene, giving you a peaceful place where you can focus on each other and stroll around the grounds.

The Barn Inn is a bed-and-breakfast and serves a delicious Amish-style farm breakfast every morning. For dinner, you can take a short ride to Millersburg, Berlin, or Mt. Hope. You’ll also find the Tarragon restaurant at the nearby Inn at Honey Run (another great establishment but it doesn’t quite have that Amish vibe).

As a welcome surprise, the Barn Inn also offers spa services, such as massages, that can help loosen ride-stiffened muscles. This B&B blends country traditions with modern comforts in just the ride ratio to guarantee an excellent anniversary weekend or any other occasion.

Athens Central Hotel, Athens

Although the right lodgings can make or break a romantic vacation, let’s face it—you’re not there to sit in a hotel but to ride! The Athens Central Hotel gives you unrivaled access to first-class roads with its proximity to the Windy 9.

This collection of roads has more to offer than you can explore during a single weekend. After the long ride, the Athens Central Hotel is a comfortable, modern hotel in which to retire for the night.

The luxurious rooms are large and impeccably appointed, leaving plenty of space for you two even after you spread out your gear. Some of the rooms have quirky architectural decisions that are probably due to the building’s previous use (ask the staff if you’re curious).

As its name implies, the hotel is located in downtown Athens, giving you easy access to dining, attractions, and nightlife. Grab a hot dog at O’Betty’s Red Hot, a pint at Jackie O’S, and then head out for some live music, theater, or the welcoming comfort of your plush bed at Athens Central.

Find it at 88 E State St, Athens, OH.

Hocking Hills Treehouse Cabins, South Bloomingville

Staying amidst nature can be romantic, but not everyone wants to sleep in a tent. The Hocking Hills Treehouse Cabins lets you get close to nature while you spend the night in thoroughly unique lodgings.

These seven treehouses (tree mansions, really) are located right by the Hocking Hills State Park. Each of them, with varying sizes and amenities to suit your needs, offers gorgeous views of the surrounding woods.

There are no dining facilities, but the small town of South Bloomingville with several restaurants is just down the road. You can engage in all kinds of outdoor activities in the Hocking Hills State Park and Conkle’s Hollow State Nature Preserve.

You also have easy access to great riding, as the treehouses are located on the Hocking Hills Nipper loop of the Windy 9. The parking lot is a bit of a ways away from the treehouses so you’ll have to carry your bags. That’s a given, though—you can’t perch a bike on a tree branch.

Find it at 22784 Purcell Rd, South Bloomingville, OH.

The Lakehouse Inn, Geneva-on-the-Lake

There are few things as romantic as watching the sun set over a vast sea. Ohio might not be a coastal state, but you can still get the same experience by staying at the Lakehouse Inn by Lake Erie.

The inn offers regular motel rooms, premium suites, and even two-bedroom cottages, so you can choose your accommodations based on how much privacy and space you want. In any case, you’ll be only about 100 feet from the shore and stunning views over the lake.

You’ll get a complimentary breakfast basket, so you can enjoy a snuggle breakfast in bed every morning. The on-site Crosswinds Grille restaurant serves farm-to-market food and locally made Ohio wines for a delicious dinner experience.

As a cherry on top of this romantic sundae (ice cream is romantic, right?), riding out to explore the town and cities on Lake Erie is a lot of fun. You could even head out to Niagara Falls to extend your romantic getaway to New York.

We should also probably mention that Lakehouse Inn offers tailor-made Romantic Getaway packages and itineraries. Just in case you’d like to let someone else handle the planning and focus on the person that matters.

Find it at 5653 Lake Rd E, Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH.

Ravenwood Castle, New Plymouth

Some riding couples don’t want to spend the entire weekend in the saddle. To them, their motorcycle is the ideal vehicle that takes them to other, one-of-a-kind experiences. And if a one-of-a-kind experience is what you’re after, Ravenwood Castle certainly fits the bill.

Ravenwood Castle is a secluded, quirky hotel modeled after a Medieval castle, located in the heart of the Hocking Hills. It offers a wide range of rooms, suites, and cabins whose furnishing styles range from the Middle Ages to Victorian times. You could, for example, find yourself sleeping on the pillory in the Duke’s Dungeon or letting your hair down in Rapunzel’s Tower.

The hotel is also famous for hosting various murder mysteries, scavenger hunts, and roleplaying events throughout the year. You can have an unforgettable and fun vacation figuring out who poisoned the king or searching for the castle’s lost treasures.

With the Hocking Hills and Windy 9 nearby, you can also easily go for a brisk ride or hike. Breakfast is served in the mornings in the Great Hall and buffet dinners are available in the evenings.

It might sound nerdy, but Ravenwood offers a unique stay in beautiful surroundings and comfortable rooms. You’re already sitting in the saddle of a metal stallion anyway, so just let your imaginations run wild and ride your steed to the castle grounds.
