US 6 in Massachusetts—Your Highway to Cape Cod

Some riders might find themselves scratching their heads if asked to identify which road US 6 in Massachusetts is. That said, they’re certainly familiar with its other name—the Grand Army of the Republic Highway.
This road, stretching 3,205 miles across the country, is the longest continuous highway in all of the U.S. It used to be the longest in general until California renumbered its roads in 1694.
Here, however, we’ll focus on the portion of US 6 that cuts through Massachusetts. Beginning in Seekonk on the Massachusetts-Rhode Island border, the Grand Army of the Republic Hwy proceeds over 118 miles to its eastern terminus in Cape Cod and Provincetown.
For its first roughly 55 miles, US 6 is a four-lane highway. It takes you through small Massachusetts towns and past green woods. Although it’s by no means an empty road, most of the heavy traffic prefers the nearby I-195, so you can follow its meanders in relative peace.
