Review: Mosko Moto Backcountry Pannier Kit (v2.5)

You can’t have a conversation in the adventure motorcycle industry without hearing the name Mosko Moto. Already famous for their luggage system, including the rackless Reckless systems and frame-mounted systems, the Mosko Moto Backcountry Panniers are a pinnacle of brilliant design, ease of use, innovative features, and rugged reliability.

Offered in 25- and 35-liter sizes, these bags come chock-full of features, like removable waterproof liners, an outer beavertail pouch, and ample MOLLE webbing for additional accessories. Securely mounted to pannier racks and removable via the proprietary plate system, these bags are versatile and simple to mount.

You can adjust the angle of the bags and how far forward or back they sit on the racks. When mounted, they provide secure retention and the ability to lock them to the plates.

Admittedly, when Mosko products first came out, I thought they were a bit overengineered and too complex. After more than 30,000 miles of using their Reckless 80 and Backcountry panniers, it’s clear that every single detail is designed with a purpose.

On my Yamaha Ténéré 700, I have the offset version which features a 35-liter bag on the left and a 25L bag on the right side. Due to the placement of the exhaust, this setup allows a uniform overall width from the centerline of the bike.

You can choose to purchase up to four Mosko Moto Aux Pox auxiliary pockets with the Backcountry kit. I have one Aux Pox attached to the rear of each bag, providing waterproof storage and quick access to essential items, such as tubes, tire repair supplies, and a compressor. I even attached an additional Aux Pox to the underside of my pannier frame to keep my tools tucked securely in place at all times.

The main compartments offer expansive storage space, and open with a familiar roll-top design, with clips on either side and a main strap on top to compress everything down. Optional Brush Guards are available to protect the front of the bags from debris or branches.

The ability to remove the waterproof dry bags in the Aux Pox allows users to store shoes, camping supplies, or even a hydration bladder. The rather narrow width and taller overall length of the bags means your rig doesn’t stick out quite as wide as with other luggage systems.

What sets these bags apart is the end-of-the-world rugged yet sustainably-sourced materials, and the innovative system to keep the shape of the bags uniform. They don’t flex, slide, bounce around, or wobble—all aspects that contribute to a more predictable and safer riding experience.

If you’re looking to venture into the backcountry for extended trips, look no further than the Backcountry panniers. These expertly-crafted designs will stand the test of time.
