Walking Under Ladders and Other Motorcycle Superstitions Realized

When you believe in things
That you don’t understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain’t the way
—Stevie Wonder
Superstition is a strange confluence of emotion and unfounded fears that can embed itself deeply in the human psyche. It fosters anxiety, despite there being no scientific justification for it.
Walking under ladders, breaking a mirror, or having any association with the number 13 are some of the more popular myths associated with inviting bad luck. Superstition—like voodoo and scary folklore—makes a great many of us uneasy, however serious or trite. These notions are often difficult to exorcize from our heads.
Popular superstitions aside, many are actually private, potentially embarrassing beliefs that have taken root due to some past experience. With regard to motorcycling and motorcyclists, there are various rituals many of us practice that have their foundation in superstition.
