Full Throttle Days
By 2004, RoadRUNNER was growing steadily. Our readership expanded, and we began selling the magazine in most major bookstores across the U.S. and Canada. We had built experience and momentum. We’d found our rhythm and were proud of what we accomplished.
Maps were always the foundation of RoadRUNNER. Christian could pore over paper maps for days, the way others might get lost in a good book. He’d study them meticulously, connecting scenic routes into multi-day tours. I can still picture him—at his desk or in the living room—completely absorbed in a Rand McNally.
For him, maps were very important. Motorcycling and maps belonged together. He was the one who came up with our tankbag maps—compact route guides riders could follow. It became a signature feature, something that set us apart from every other publication. Readers loved it.
