Family, Fuel, and the Future: 25 Years of RoadRUNNER
Americade was always the highlight of the season for us. Since it required a long trip, we made sure to get the most out of it. In 2008, Florian and I trailered two press bikes up to Lake George by car, while Manuel flew in later. After the event, we planned a Shamrock Tour® in Ohio with Jim Parks and his local friend, Steve Mauk. From Lake George, we headed to Buffalo to pick up Manuel from the airport and decided to make a quick detour to see Niagara Falls.
As we got closer, traffic got heavy and signs pointed us toward Rainbow Bridge—a name too enticing to ignore. Caught up in the excitement, we followed the signs... Straight to the Canadian border. With no passports and two press bikes on the trailer, each with license plates from different states, we knew we were in trouble. Pulled over and questioned, we quickly realized we weren’t the only ones who had missed the last turn. After explaining the situation, we were escorted back to the U.S. side, where we had to go through another round of questioning. In the end, we laughed it off and finally got to see the breathtaking falls from the American side.
