The Most Beautiful Road in the State—Indiana SR 135

Indiana tends to get dismissed as flyover country—but that’s not fair to the Hoosier State. Motorcyclists in particular can find many entertaining routes at the Crossroads of America.
One of the foremost among them is Indiana SR 135.
But what is Indiana SR 135? The answer depends on who you ask.
The AAA, for instance, defines the “Scenic Backcountry Route 135” as a roughly 50-mile section of SR 135 starting in Salem, IN, and proceeding north up to SR 46. This, however, ignores the majority of the road.
What’s officially designated as SR 135 begins down south in Mauckport on the Ohio River as you cross the Kentucky-Indiana border. From there, the road rolls on for more or less 130 miles until terminating near Indianapolis.
In this way, you could say there are two routes on SR 135—the full road and the shorter scenic section. That means you have no excuse not to ride it, even if you’re on a tighter schedule.
