Explore The Pennsylvania Wilds Along SR 120

SR 120 in north-central Pennsylvania meanders for some 116 miles along the West Branch Susquehanna River and other streams through narrow mountain valleys. These waterways are a 300-million-years-old collection of rivers and creeks. The West Branch is the main tributary of the mighty Susquehanna River, which flows south from New York State.

Our route runs upstream from Lock Haven to Ridgway, which is in a more remote and less populated region often referred to as the Pennsylvania Wilds. Here, the flora and fauna far outnumber people, and I have encountered elk along this exceptionally scenic route. They are breathtaking to see roaming across fields and through forests, but I wouldn’t want to encounter one too closely on the road.
