An Outdoor Enthusiast’s Paradise—Tellico Plains, TN

Tellico Plains is a small mountain town, nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Any motorcyclist who enjoys exploring the great outdoors as much as carving through technical curves will find a paradise here.

The town has always derived its livelihood from the mountains. Before Europeans arrived, the Cherokee town of Great Tellico stood in this place, serving as a trade hub for the Smoky Mountains goods.

By the late 19th century, Tellico Plains was an important base for logging operations. The forests were cut clear, but fortunately reforestation efforts have been very successful.

Today, the Smoky Mountains remain Tellico’s lifeblood. Instead of felling the trees, however, outdoor enthusiasts enjoy everything they can do between them.

And when I say everything, I mean everything. Whatever you like to do out in nature, it’s on the table in Tellico Plains.

If you’re a hiker like myself, there are more trails around the town than your legs can carry you to. Some of the most noteworthy include the three-mile Indian Boundary Lake Trail, the nine-mile Bald River Trail, and the two-mile Warrior’s Passage Trail. Each is relatively easy to do (although you should swap out of your riding gear) and takes you to tranquil waterside views.

Speaking of hiking and water, I’d be remiss not to tell you to check out at least two waterfalls while you’re in Tellico Plains. You would be similarly remiss to not take me up on my recommendation.
