Amarillo, TX—The Yellow Rose of Route 66

Amarillo, TX—The Yellow Rose of Route 66

Amarillo is the largest city on the Texas stretch of Route 66. No motorcyclist roaring down the Mother Road should miss taking a break at the Yellow Rose of Texas.

After all, Amarillo earned a place in Bobby Troup’s “(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66.” That alone should convince all bikers that stopping at Amarillo is not optional.

The heart of Mother Road nostalgia in Amarillo is undoubtedly the Route 66 Historic District. This area of the city follows Route 66’s alignment during its golden era in the ‘30s-’50s.

Centered around 6th Ave, between Western and Georgia streets, the district features murals commemorating Route 66, restaurants, cafes, antique shops, and other attractions. You should certainly at least ride through it, but I wholeheartedly recommend getting off your bike and moseying about the street.
