Review: Klim Sixxer Leather Jacket

The leather motorcycle jacket serves as a badge of honor of sorts. It’s a look that dates back to just after WWII when motorcycle clubs began to organize and the distinct style of an “American biker” was formed.

Leather jackets became an iconic trend that stuck around and for a good reason, too. Leather was the most protective material companies could use to make riding gear at the time—still is, really, as Moto GP racers rocking one-piece leather racing suits demonstrate.

Somehow, I managed to make it 22 years into my riding career before owning a leather jacket. It’s not that I didn’t want one; I just never got around to buying one.

Nowadays, I find myself riding different motorcycle types on any given day, and I enjoy looking (and feeling) the part. That meant finding the perfect leather jacket for my moto closet.

Klim Makes Leather Jackets?

Klim indeed makes leather jackets. Several years back, Klim introduced the Sixxer, a leather jacket offering a high degree of protection wrapped in timeless yet modern styling.

The Sixxer comes in both black and brown and is quite trendy. You could wear it as a regular jacket on a chilly day and no one would be any wiser. But what the regular public doesn’t see is the fact that it’s designed specifically with riders in mind.

The jacket is made out of 1mm thick cowhide leather and has an interior mesh liner to help with ventilation. Speaking of which, perforations in key areas allow for airflow while riding.

Somehow, this jacket keeps you warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. It’s like some sort of magic.

The magnetic collar tab makes it easy to keep the collar in place and the zippered cuffs help slide your gloves on and off with ease. Around the waist, you’ll find snap bottom hem adjustment as well.

The Sixxer uses YKK zippers and has a bottom zipper hem for protecting your precious tank paint. They really thought of everything.

Quality and Style

For protection, just like all other Klim gear, the Sixxer has pockets for D3O armor in the shoulders, elbows, and back. Reinforced leather panels on the shoulders and elbows offer additional abrasion resistance on those high-impact zones. Sliding into this jacket, I really feel like I’m well protected.

There are plenty of pockets, too—two exterior hand pockets, one external chest pocket, one internal chest pocket, and one internal lower abdominal pocket. My phone, wallet, and an extra set of earplugs all have a designated spot.

All of the other features aside, the Sixxer is just plain comfortable. Like curling up on the couch under a weighted blanket, I feel like I’m getting a hug every time I put it on.

I can’t believe it took this long for me to finally sport a quality leather jacket on the bike. I really was missing out for all those years.
