Review: GoPro Hero 12 Black
An action camera is the ultimate companion for documenting two-wheeled adventures. If you thought you could relive your motorcycle trips by looking back through the photos, just imagine watching the first-person footage—or better yet, creating a video recap of your trip to share with your family and friends.
The GoPro Hero 12 Black has become a staple on my packing list whenever I set out on a RoadRUNNER tour. Although I can mount it to the bike in multiple ways, my favorite is with the Dango Gripper, which attaches to and detaches from the helmet easily while riding down the road.
Image Quality
The upgraded 20-megapixel sensor and advanced image processing technology deliver sharp and vibrant photos, bringing every twist of the road to life with clarity and detail. Colors are rich and true to life, while the improved dynamic range handles even the most challenging lighting conditions with ease, whether you’re riding under the blazing sun or through dimly lit tunnels.
The Hero 12 Black gives motorcyclists the ability to relive their rides in 8K resolution at 60 frames per second. For added cinematic flair, the camera also supports 4K video at 120 frames per second. Advanced HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilization tech helps keep footage steady, even on the roughest roads. I use the 360-degree Horizon Lock feature all the time, especially when filming by hand as it keeps the picture straight even if the camera isn’t.
Additional Features
In addition to its impressive imaging capabilities, the Hero 12 Black offers several features that make it easy to use on the go. Simple button layouts and touch-screen displays let you navigate through settings and modes quickly, even while wearing gloves. The voice control functionality is a welcome addition, allowing for hands-free operation on the fly. GoPro now offers a new optional endurance battery upgrade that lets you ride and film longer between charges.
The Hero 12 Black boasts built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, making it straightforward to transfer footage to a smartphone or any other device. The companion mobile app offers a range of additional features, including remote control functionality and livestreaming, allowing riders to share their adventures with friends and followers in real time. I haven’t tested the livestream ride yet, but maybe it’s time to give it a try.
With its compact and rugged design, stellar image quality, and advanced features tailored specifically for spending time on the road, the GoPro Hero 12 Black is a must-have accessory for anyone who wants to document their travels with video. In fact, many of the point-of-view riding videos on the RoadRUNNER YouTube channel were shot with the GoPro Hero 12 Black. If you can’t get out to ride all of the same roads we do, the next best thing is to ride them with us virtually.
