Book: North to Deadhorse

Riding a motorcycle to the northern coast of Alaska isn’t something every rider can (or should) do. But if you do feel the call of the wild, you can hitch a ride on the pillion seat of Troy L. Ramsell with his new book North to Deadhorse.

North to Deadhorse: End of the Public Road chronicles Ramsell’s attempt to take the Dalton Highway all the way to the Arctic Ocean (or at least as far as a motorcycle can reasonably go). He aims to traverse 6,500 of some of the most unforgiving miles in the world over only 12 days.

The journey would be difficult already without such a time limit. Within the pages, Ramsell takes you along to face all the challenges fate has in store for him.

He details his battle against sleep deprivation and hunger over long, lonely hours in the saddle. Ramsell faces freezing wind and rain, closed gas stations, careless truck drivers, and mosquitoes—swarms upon swarms of mosquitoes.

Yet, somehow he never manages to lose his sense of humor as the tells you the story of his incredible undertaking. North to Deadhorse: End of the Public Road is a must-read for any motorcycle rider, or anyone who enjoys a good story.

Troy L. Ramsell has been touring on a motorcycle for more than 30 years. He has conquered every U.S. state and most of Canada, in addition to putting his wheels onto the ground in Africa and South America.

North to Deadhorse is Ramsell’s second book. He previously detailed his journay to the town of Wrigley in the middle of the Canadian wilderness in his debut book, North to Wrigley.
