Kawasaki Adds Sturdy DF Model to KLR650 Line for 2027
Kawasaki’s KLR650 is an iconic machine among ADV motorcyclists, revered for its simplicity and ruggedness. For the 2027 model year, Kawasaki is turning the bike even tougher with the new KLR50 DF.
The DF model adds extra safety equipment to deal with rough roads. Standard frame sliders safeguard the engine and bodywork in case of falls. The DF also has standard handguards, and comes with a rear rack for your luggage.

Kawasaki has also given the DF a unique look and colorway. The bike comes in a Metallic Flat Raw Graystone paint scheme with blacked-out metal components.
Otherwise, the new DF is identical to the other 2027 (and 2026) KLR650 models. Its power stems from Kawi’s liquid-cooled 652cc single with 40 ponies at 6,000 rpm and 39 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm.

A 41mm unadjustable telescopic fork with 7.9 inches of travel and a rebound and preload adjustable rear shock with 8 inches of travel suck up road irregularities with commendable gusto. Braking components consist of a 300mm disc up front and a 240mm disc in the rear, both with dual-piston calipers.
The large 6.1-gallon tank should carry sufficient fuel for long stretches of dirt. With the added safety components, the new DF is the heaviest KLR650 at 472 pounds when ready to ride; the others clock in around 460 pounds.
The 2027 Kawasaki KLR 650 will be available in early December 2026 at an MSRP of $7,699.

The rest of the KLR650 family in 2027 consists of the base KLR650 in Metallic Spark Black ($6,999 with no ABS, $7,299 with ABS), the low-seat KLR650 S (same price and color as the base model), and the touring-equipped KLR650 Adventure in Cypher Camo Beige/Pearl Matte Sand Khaki or Metallic Bluish Green ($8,199).
