Shamrockin'—A Letter from Florian

Shamrockin'—A Letter from Florian

We’ve had a lot of good ideas over the years. Not all ideas are created equal, however. Some worked out. Some didn’t.

One stroke of genius came before our first issue was even printed in 2001. We called it a Shamrock Tour®. You know and love them. This feature is all about a base location from which to explore the surrounding area through four glorious daylong loops. You don’t have to pack your bags every day, and you can really experience the vibe of a place.

Technically speaking, a shamrock has three leaves. Believe me, after 25 years, we know. But aren’t four days of riding better than three? Many of you lovingly refer to our signature feature as a cloverleaf tour. I’ll take it. All that matters is that you’re hitting the road and recreating our Shamrocks.

Last year, I had a grandiose idea. Why are we limiting our most popular tour to just one per issue? Boom. The issue you’re holding includes not one but two Shamrock Tours! We’ll mix it up from here on out, and we’re constantly looking for ways to publish the best motorcycle travel magazine for you.

You’ll notice a music theme with our City Escapes. That was not by chance. I was flipping through old photos when I came across some gems from my youth. Music festivals were always on my summer schedule, but at some point in my early 20s, life simply got in the way. But after past experiences rushed through me, I knew I had to weave this into the magazine. Nowadays, there are so many festivals, so let this be your sign to seek one out. Maybe you’re like me, and it has been too long since you enjoyed live music.

Fishing is another common thread. Over the years, we’ve combined motorcycling and fishing numerous times. After rewatching our fly-fishing video from Blue Ridge, GA, on YouTube, I made it a point to bring the whole family to this little outdoor outpost. Did you know that it costs more than $3,000 to learn how to build your own Oyster rod there? Fortunately, I was able to find rods for just $25 to take my two boys fishing during our Helen, GA, trip. We visited our friend Keith, and the kids were pulling out bass and bluegill every couple of minutes from the well-stocked home pond. I hope you enjoy the fun adventure of hooking a golden trout starting on page 28.

The Sep/Oct '26 issue is packed with fun travel inspiration, motorcycle reviews, and product evaluations. The fall riding season is just around the corner. Contact the tourism bureaus advertising with us to receive local guides and maps.
