Continental ContiRoadAttack 4—A New ‘Hyper-Touring’ Tire
Continental is bringing in a new treat to help sport-touring enthusiasts stick to the road. The ContiRoadAttack 4 tires, announced in November 2021, are expected to soon be available.
The company has given the ContiRoadAttack 4 the less-than-modest nickname of the “hyper-touring tire.” But that isn’t an empty boast and the tires deliver notable improvements to the Continental lineup.
Featuring a whole new tire design, the ContiRoadAttack 4 tire aims to deliver high performance from both sport and touring perspectives. It features the new GripLimitFeedback technology, intended to provide the rider early feedback in high lean angles and improve agility.
The upper tread shoulder has a newly implemented slick area that improves grip and precision during cornering. The updated groove pattern between the tire’s solid backbone and the slick area, in contact with the road at lean angles between 10 and 30 degrees, provides better drainage for higher grip in wet conditions.
The ContiRoadAttack 4 is made out of an all-new Silica compound, optimized for use with ABS systems. Continental says the material warms up faster in cold or wet weather and provides higher mileage.
In addition, the tire has a new resin mixture that makes it stickier and further enhances grip, even on cold roads. Together, these new materials should improve the tire’s wear balance.
All in all, Continental claims the ContiRoadAttack 4 can rival pure sport tires in dry grip. Even if you’re more of a touring rider, extra traction will definitely not be a bad thing.
Building on the Legacy
To make the tire usable straight off the shelf, the ContiRoadAttack 4 features Continental’s TractionSkin technology, originally introduced in 2010 in the ContiRoadAttack 2. This technology is intended to shorten the break-in period and help riders get the most out of the tire as quickly as possible.
On top of TractionSkin, the new tire comes with all the improvements previously introduced to the ContiRoadAttack line. These include the EasyHandling, RainGrip, and ZeroDegree technologies.
ContiRoadAttack 4 has been specifically developed for powerful, modern sport-touring bikes. To hammer the point home, the tire has a high contrast font design on the sidewall that’s right at home on recent bikes.
Continental doesn’t intend to leave fans of more classic bikes in the dust, though. The company says that the new compound and tread pattern of ContiRoadAttack 4 can improve performance when used with retro touring motorcycles.
ContiRoadAttack 4 will hit retail stores from January onward. The tire will be available in multiple dimensions, including 120/70 ZR 17 M/C for front and 160/60 ZR 17 M/C, 180/55 ZR 17 M/C, 190/50 ZR 17 M/C, and 190/55 ZR 17 M/C for rear.
