Colorado Gold Rush Ride

Colorado Gold Rush Ride

In 2000, my friend Tom asked me to do a week-long Colorado dirt bike ride with him. I was 41 years old, deep into my career, and raising a family. How could I take a week off?

But Tom kept asking and telling me how great this ride is. In 2002, I decided to make it happen.

The week-long Gold Rush ride was an amazing experience, challenging with incredible sights. I also forged new friendships. Little did I know it would become an annual event for me; 2026 will be my 24th Gold Rush ride—and I’ve been a coordinator for the last six years!

So, what is the Gold Rush? It is what you want to make of it. I like to call it a semi-organized ride with options.

It is a five-day ride (Monday through Friday) aimed at anyone who loves a good challenge and riding dirt or dual sport bikes. The motorcycle must be licensed and have a Colorado OHV sticker (obtained at Colorado State Parks website). Each morning, volunteer trail guides lead the group to adventure.

The ride begins in Ouray, CO, where riders get to experience high country passes and astounding views. You’ll also decide how difficult the day will be based on what group you choose to ride with.
