Metzeler’s Karoo 3 Tires for Enduros

Metzeler’s Karoo 3 are a new concept of adventure and enduro on/off tires dedicated to off-road expeditions. The tires feature improved off-road traction and on-road stability, and excellent mileage. Suitable for light and heavy enduros, the Karoo 3s are available in three front and six rear sizes.

The tires boast a new tread pattern, larger knobs, and differentiated spacing between knobs. The trapezoidal tread pattern ensures progressive off-road traction at various lean angles. Altogether, the Karoo 3s offer 30-percent more mileage than its predecessor.

The tires have an innovative belt structure, with a single ply of steel cords wrapped at zero degrees around a radial carcass. Metzeler’s patented 0° Steel Radial technology is used for both front and rear tires. Steel features a greater stiffness than the traditional textile material and also reduces tire weight, and a steel-belted radial reduces the dynamic deformation of the tire under centrifugal forces, giving it high-performance, high-speed stability. Steel is also an excellent conductor that provides more uniform heat distribution—meaning higher mileage and more uniform wear characteristics.

MAW, Metzeler’s patented Advanced Winding system, offers optimum spacing between the cords of the zero-degree steel belt. On both front and rear tires, the spacing is wider in the crown area for more elasticity and self-damping. Sections of the tire used for mid-lean have increased stiffness to support fast cornering, while the shoulder area on the rear tire is wider for safe feedback and control.
