REV'IT! Ladies Monroe Jacket

Where I live in eastern North Carolina, the weather is unpredictable in fall and winter. One day it’s 80 degrees; two days later, it’s snowing. I wanted a jacket that was safe, well fitted, affordable, and could get me comfortably through the erratic ups and downs of winter weather in this region. REV’IT! describes the Monroe as “a jacket packed with features to make life on the road easier.” And it is.

The two-layer jacket is 100-percent waterproof, thanks to REV’IT!’s Hydratex membrane. The polyester/polyamide outer shell is tough but lightweight, and the detachable thermal liner was key to keeping me warm on blustery, gray days. Airflow is managed via two zippers at the waist. Two external pockets, plus internal and stash pockets, were all I needed to hold my belongings, including my iPhone 5. Riders with larger smartphones might have a more difficult time fitting it into the stash pocket.

A collar hook and adjustable straps at the waist, arms, and cuffs provided a customized fit. Unlike other jackets I’ve worn, the Monroe doesn’t ride up when I grab the handlebar or lean over the bike. It’s a suit of armor that doesn’t feel like one, offering a fitted, flexible feel that doesn’t resist movement. There’s CE protection at the shoulders and elbows with room for a Seesoft CE Level 2 back protector, hi-viz vest for enhanced visibility, or a Challenger Cooling vest insert. Laminated reflection on the chest and back, with a reflective logo on the upper arms, provides added safety. Sizing is true.

The Monroe is designed to be an all-season option. I have yet to test it in coastal Carolina’s swampy summer heat, but, with only two vents for airflow, I have a feeling this won’t be where it shines. I was sweating in it on one 75-degree day. The other three seasons of the year though? It’ll be my go-to.
