More news is rolling in from Milan. Vespa’s parent company, the Piaggio Group, has unveiled two new scooters for 2017.

Charity Collaboration: the Vespa 946 RED

A collaborative partnership between the Piaggio Group and (RED) has resulted in the Vespa 946 RED, an all-red version of the classic scooter, sales of which will go towards initiatives fighting AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

The Vespa RED is the only automotive product to have been chosen by (RED), an organization founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver that has donated more than $365 million to the Global Fund, which finances HIV/AIDS grants in Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Zambia. (RED)’s donations to the Global Fund have had an impact on over 70 million people and been used to provide preventive measures, treatments, counseling, HIV tests, and other services.

For each Vespa RED sold, $150 will be donated to the Global Fund. This donation will enable (RED) to guarantee over 500 days’ worth of life-saving medical treatments for HIV and help prevent mothers infected with the virus from passing it on to their unborn children.

The scooter is the 2017 version of the Vespa 946. Powered by a 155cc four-stroke, air-cooled, fuel-injected powerplant, it features ABS and advanced traction control that keeps the rear wheel from skidding. The cherry red finish is complemented by a chrome rack, bag hook, and mirrors.

Vespa Elettrica

The Vespa Elettrica Project

The Elettrica is Vespa’s first electric scooter. Slim, chic, and geared toward eco-friendly riders, it has a metal body with brilliant blue accents. While still in the concept stage, it will sport a traditional Vespa design. No pricing or specs have been released—just this image—but Piaggio plans to see it roll into production in the latter half of 2017.
