Review: REV’IT! Tryonic Feel 3.7 Back Protector

REV'IT! back protectorWhile some jackets offer insertable back pads, many are little more than rectangles of foam that don’t provide the coverage or impact protection of a dedicated back protector. The Tryonic Feel 3.7 from REV’IT! has CE Level 2 armor for those looking to supplement their safety gear. Running from the shoulder blades to the tailbone, the back protector’s six hard shell polypropylene and EPS plates are connected by flexible rubberlike joints. CoolMax lining along the spine aids airflow. When you hold the Feel 3.7 up to the light you can see the wealth of ventilation channels.

The back protector is worn using adjustable shoulder and waist straps. The waist strap rides a little high, which is useful for sportbike riders as it prevents extra fabric bunching at the waist when crouched over. This extra support helps on longer rides, much like a kidney belt. Additional adjustable straps pull the lower section snug against the lower back for a custom fit.

Along the spine the Feel 3.7 is over 1.3 inches thick, so you may have to remove the back pad your jacket came with (if any) to make it fit. The feeling of security, though, can’t be beat.
