National Parks

The National Park Service turns 100 today, August 25, 2016, and everyone can take part in the celebration. From August 25-28, the NPS will offer free admission to all U.S. national parks.

America’s more than 400 national parks span 84 million acres, terrain that is historic, sacred, and enriching—and RoadRUNNER continues to explore them, from Arches to Zion. This year we were excited to welcome a new chronicle, “In Pursuit of Wildness,” by Robert Griego, a motorcyclist who spent more than 35 years with the NPS.

Fee-free days are a great opportunity to visit an old favorite or explore a new one. The fee waiver includes entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession, and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise. You can learn more on the Centennial website.

As Robert writes, “Perhaps the next 100 years will be the most important, teaching our children the value of preserving and protecting nature, and keeping our national parks alive and well.”
