2016 Honda VFR1200X: Another Adventure Bike?Four New Hondas to be Unveiled–

With all the recent hype and anticipation surrounding the forthcoming 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin, it came as a bit of a surprise when Honda announced that it would be releasing another all-new adventure bike for 2016. In fact, Honda will be offering a full range of adventure bikes next year. This from a company that has, until now, contented itself to watch the European brands, along with Suzuki and Yamaha, enjoy years of substantial U.S. sales success in this ever-growing motorcycle category. For 2016, however, Honda is jumping into the fray with no fewer than four adventure models, though some stretch that definition a bit.

The biggest news, other than the aforementioned Africa Twin, is the VFR1200X. This bike, based on the touring oriented VFR1200, has been available in Europe, where it’s known as the Crosstourer, for a while now , but will make its debut on American shores next year sporting some significant upgrades. The adventure VFR will headline Honda’s ADV lineup with its 1,237cc V4 engine, shaft drive, a variety of electronics packages, and the choice of a standard six-speed or dual clutch transmission.

The NC700 has been part of Honda’s lineup for several years now, but it will be receiving an array of updates for 2016. First on the list is more exciting, adventure styling more in line with the rest of the ADV class. Other upgrades include a taller front windscreen, lighter exhaust system, increased luggage capacity, and LED rear lights.

Based on the CBR500R sportbike and CB500F naked, the CB500X adds the off-road ability lacking on the other 471cc parallel twin models. The bike also gets pre-load adjustable front forks, LED taillight, and a higher windscreen.

Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications for American Honda says, “We’re very excited to offer such a well-rounded offering of adventure-touring models in the U.S. for 2016. The introduction of the VFR1200X to North America follows on the incredible reception of the Africa Twin. With the NC700X and CB500X also set to get important updates for 2016, Honda has a model to suit the needs of any adventure-touring enthusiast.”
