This National Scenic Byway traces the mighty Mississippi River from Minnesota to Louisiana, passing by Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Tennessee, and Wisconsin along the way. America’s longest river slices through the country’s heartland, meandering past charming river towns and major metropolitan areas. In Minnesota the journey begins near the Mississippi’s headwaters at Lake Itaska and terminates near Venice, LA. It’s an epic motorcycle ride. In many sections The Great River Road can be followed on either the east or west bank of the river.

Scenery: High bluffs, barges and other river traffic, waterfalls, magnificent bridges, historic sites, epicurean delights, sweeping rural vistas, spectacular sunsets, and countless museums and cultural attractions are some of the points of interest found on this route.
Curves: Mostly sweepers and straight alignments
Traffic: Can be heavy in metropolitan areas
Distance: Approximately 2,000 miles
Time Required: 8 to 14 days, depending on number and length of stops along the route
Technical Difficulty: Not technically challenging; it’s appropriate for most street bikes and riders
