2016 Kawasaki Z800 ABSThe Z1000’s Little Brother Comes to the U.S. –

The Z800 isn’t really a new bike since it’s been available in Europe for a while now. Still, it’s good news that Kawasaki has announced the mid-displacement naked bike will be crossing the pond for the 2016 model year. Californians, however, will still have to look elsewhere in this increasingly competitive market segment, as the Z800 will only be legal in the 49 other states.

The Z800 features an 806cc, DOHC inline-four with four valves per cylinder and weighs 509 pounds with 4.5 gallons of fuel on board. Stylistically the Z800 borrows heavily from the Z1000 and is very distinctly Kawasaki. As mentioned above, the middleweight naked bike category has seen several new models over the past few years. The venerable Triumph Street Triple has been joined by the budget friendly Yamaha FZ-09 and Suzuki GSX-S750 along with the pricier Ducati Monster 821. The Kawasaki aims to compete with the other Japanese brands on price with an MSRP of just $8,399. For that reasonable sum the Kawasaki buyer gets ABS and adjustable suspension—features not found on the similarly priced Yamaha and Suzuki.
