RoadRUNNER Editor Spotlight: Ken FreundYou’ve read their articles and perhaps met them out on the road or at RoadRUNNER‘s annual Touring Weekend, but what do you know about our illustrious group of writers and editors? We decided to ask each one a few simple questions and share their responses with you, next up, frequent contributor, technical editor, and motorcycle tester Ken Freund.

Name: Ken Freund
Current city and state: Moorpark, CA

  1. How and when did you start riding? I was fascinated by motorcycles and taught myself to ride when I was 14.
  2. What was your first bike? A 1959 Batavus.
  3. Tell us your favorite road where you live? State Highway 33.
  4. Current ride (or bike you ride the most)? 2008 Harley-Davidson Road King (but I currently have six bikes).
  5. Number one Bucket List Road? The Silk Road (now that I’ve finally ridden the Road of Death in Bolivia).

What are the best and worst bikes you’ve ever ridden and how did they earn that distinction?

Best: Since I can’t narrow this down to just one; the Vincent Black Shadow was the world’s fastest motorcycle in its day. The KTM 1190 Adventure R is a great adventure bike and the Yamaha FJR 1300 is a great all-around sport tourer.

Worst: A Royal Enfield Bullet that broke down every day on my trip through India, Nepal, and Buhtan.

Be sure to catch up with last week’s spotlight, Alfonse Paliama.
