Sarah & Flo’s American Road Trip

Sarah & Flo's American Road TripWhen I first met Sarah six years ago, we instantly bonded over stories of travel and all of the places we wanted to see. Yet, just like most peoples’ lives, busy schedules got in the way and before we knew it, time passed, having never checked off any “must see” items. For me the past few summers have been filled with weeks away from home and with Sarah’s new corporate job entailing long hours and stressful days, we were both in need of some time alone together. Sarah had been debating her career path for quite a while, so over breakfast one morning I said, “I have something I want to ask you about … and let me finish before you say no.” I realize that this is not the best way to start a conversation with your girlfriend, but I did secretly want to have a dramatic build up to the discussion. Then I asked, “Do you want to travel along with me this summer and find a new job in the fall?” After a look of shock and excitement, she said, “Of course!” She’s a smart one after all.

So, this marks the beginning of our summer journey together across the U.S. on a 2014 Honda Gold Wing. We started our trip after RoadRUNNER’s Touring Weekend in Snowshoe, WV, and our first stop along the way was visiting her family in Ohio. After several well wishes and our motorcycle packed—and repacked—and with shoes … I mean “items,” shipped home, we were ready to hit the pavement. Of course, we could not just go right into vacation mode, so we made a slight detour and headed for the BMW MOA Rally in Saint Paul, MN, where I may have exploited Sarah’s cute smile for a few extra subscription sign-ups. Our adventures will be highlighted in upcoming blogs about people we meet, places we discover, and everything in between.
