It’s Finally Here! The 2015 Indian Scout

Talk of the new Indian Scout started almost before the trash was cleaned up at the unveiling of the Indian Chief lineup at Sturgis last year. After the nearly universal applause that greeted Polaris’ first batch of Indians, anticipation for a potential Scout model grew even more. Well, the wait is over. Just like the Chief models before it, the Indian Scout was unveiled with much fanfare at Sturgis over the weekend.

A quick look down the Scout’s spec sheet reveals that this promises to be a performance powerhouse in the cruiser market. Weighing only 558 pounds with a full tank of gas, the Scout is relatively light, no doubt due in part to the bike’s cast aluminum frame. According to Indian, the Scout has the lowest weight in the mid-size cruiser class. Power comes from a 69 cubic inch (1,131cc) liquid-cooled V-twin producing a claimed 100-horsepower and 72-pound feet of torque. Stylistically the Scout, with its distinctive tan leather saddle and swooping lines, fits right in with the rest of the Indian lineup even without heavily valanced fenders.

With a low seat height (25.3 inches), potentially class-leading performance, and a very reasonable $10,999 entry price, the Scout is another aggressive market entry from Polaris that, like the Chiefs, could be a major hit. Now we just have to ride it…
