Ducati Unveils New Monster 821

Earlier this year Ducati announced the range-topping Monster 1200 and 1200 S but it seems that the Italian brand hasn’t been content to leave its naked bike lineup alone. The 1200 now has a new little brother, the 821. Though full specs have not yet been released, we know the 821 is powered by the latest version of the liquid-cooled 11° Testastretta engine found in the Hypermotard displacing, you guessed it, 821cc. According to Ducati the engine produces 112 horsepower and 65.9 pound feet of torque, which should be plenty considering the 821’s 395.7-pound dry weight. Stylistically, the newest Monster looks very similar to the 1200, the biggest immediately recognizable difference being the 821’s more traditional (and cheaper to manufacture) double sided swingarm.

Ducati cites “high-spec brakes” and “excellent suspension” though they don’t mention any specifics. What comes as no surprise, however, is that the 821 will feature a comprehensive electronics package with eight level traction control, three level ABS, and three level ride by wire with selectable riding modes. The bike will come in two standard colors, Ducati Red and Star White Silk, with a special blacked out Dark model also available. Ducati hasn’t released the price, but the mid-size Monster will hit dealerships in July.
