2014 BMW R 1200 RT: Now with Liquid Cooling! For 2014 BMW’s new water-boxer engine has found its way into the RT. Just like on the GS, the motor puts out a healthy 125 horsepower and 92 pound feet of torque. Unlike its adventurous cousin, however, the RT gets a beefed up crankshaft and alternator. The increased reciprocating mass enhances the engine’s smoothness and aids comfort on long rides. The 2014 RT also benefits from BMW’s Automatic Stability Control and it comes with two riding modes, “Road” and “Rain.” Tack on the optional Pro riding mode and you get two more settings, “Dynamic” and “Hill Start Control.”

In what BMW claims is a world first for motorcycles, the company’s Gear Shift Assistant Pro (another option box to check) allows clutch-less shifting without touching the throttle. According to BMW this will result in “greater comfort and added dynamism.”

The 2014 RT gets further updates to its frame (increased stability), as well as optional Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment). Updated bodywork, lighting, an upgraded instrument display, and new colors round out the 2014 changes.
