2014 Ducati 1199 SuperleggeraHave money to burn? Is the Ducati 1199 Panigale R a little too slow, heavy, and cheap for you? You’re in luck! Ducati has just announced the 2014 1199 Superleggera (super light in Italian), a highly exclusive, limited production version of the aforementioned 1199 Panigale. The Superleggera uses a variety of exotic (read expensive) materials such as titanium, magnesium, and carbon fiber to further reduce the Panigale’s already light weight. The result is a bike that weighs 341.7 pounds (dry), a substantial 22 pounds less than the Panigale R. This weight savings should mean a wet weight a smidge under 400 pounds. Couple this with power that Ducati says is “more than 200 horsepower,” and you’ve got the recipe for the highest power to weight ratio ever achieved in a production motorcycle. Only 500 Superleggeras will be made, and Ducati says that around 75-percent of these have already been sold. Pricing info has yet to be released, but you know the old saying, “if you have to ask….”
