Great Smoky Mountain Motomarathon

This weekend, October 27-30, 2012, the Motomarathon Association is bringing their distinct brand of sport touring to the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. Motomarathon is a new sport dating back to 2009; participants meet up at a designated place and time to receive their route map for that day. They then spend the next 8-10 hours carving up some of the curviest, prettiest, and most challenging backroads in the country from checkpoint to checkpoint, marking each one with a photo. The routes are designed to be easily achievable in a day without exceeding the speed limit and with plenty of time for stopping. The events generally last four days with a new route map for each day. Participants can ride as much or as little of the routes as they like, but the Motomarathon Association keeps track of all checkpoints achieved and lists the standings on their website.
