Bucket List Roads: Pennsylvania Amish Country Cruise

A laid-back cruise across the Susquehanna River through Lancaster County’s 19th-century landscape and back across the Susquehanna in eastern Pennsylvania. The Old Order Amish have forsaken most modern conveniences. Their back-in-time lifestyle, farming equipment, and modes of travel are largely pre-20th century. Watch out for the “road apples” deposited by horses pulling Amish buggies and wagons.

Don’t-Miss Attractions:

  • Strasburg Railroad: Take a ride on a restored steam-powered train.
  • Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania: Across the road from the Strasburg Railroad is the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, where visitors will find an extensive collection of historic locomotives and rolling stock.
  • Good ‘N Plenty Restaurant: Enjoy an authentic all-you-can-eat family-style Amish meal at this Lancaster County restaurant, around since 1969.
