You’d camp more if only you could sleep better at night, right? We never suspected that a gathered-end hammock might be the solution, but string up Warbonnet Outdoors’ Blackbird XLC and you’ll feel cradled in a cocoon. You may not even want to emerge.

Approximately 162 x 36 inches, the XLC will fit anyone up to 6’6 and includes your choice of suspension, a shelf, removable bug netting, and a footbox, which increases leg room and offers users increased comfort. A winter topcover can also be purchased for $65. It traps about 15 degrees of heat compared to outside temperatures and is made of breathable, water-resistant fabric. As it is not waterproof, you don’t want to forget a tarp.

You can choose between a few fabric types; namely, whether you want a single-layer or double-layer body. The double layer increases weight capacity (up to 400 pounds) and is recommended for anyone using a pad as bottom insulation.

Warbonnet Outdoors has a “Hammocking 101″ section on its site that offers detailed information on placement and pieces. The XLC is designed for you to lay in off-center, meaning your head is very close to the lower head end of the hammock, while your feet are farther away from the foot end. Before heading into the great outdoors, take look at the setup video, also available on the company’s site.
