BMW G 310 R: A Sporty Little ThumperBMW Goes Small –

A sub-500cc BMW has been rumored for quite sometime, but now rumor has given way to fact as the Bavarian company recently announced the brand new G 310 R roadster. The small bike is powered by a 313cc single cylinder engine with DOHC and four valves. The power plant is an all-new design built specifically for this application and is installed in a unique backward configuration. The small thumper manages an impressive 34 horsepower at 9,500 rpm. The G 310 R is said to “echo the S 1000 R” in its styling, and it does fit right in with the rest of BMW’s roadster lineup, in spite of its diminutive displacement.

BMW claims a wet weight of just 349 pounds, which, coupled with high quality suspension components, should make the G 310 R a spectacular handling machine. Being a BMW, the new roadster comes equipped with ABS. The braking hardware consists of a radially mounted four-piston caliper squeezing a 300mm disc up front and a two-pot caliper and 240mm disc in the rear.

According to BMW the G 310 R is made to comfortably accommodate a wide variety of riders. With its small size and weight in conjunction with a 31-inch seat height, the G 310 R should be an extremely friendly mount for first time riders. The bike will be built by BMW’s Indian partner, TVS Motor Company, in India.
