2015 Touring Weekend - Clemmons, NCThree Days of Riding Fun in North Carolina –

Around 250 people, from across the country and Canada, were in attendance for this year’s Touring Weekend, an event, which first began as a memorial ride for RoadRUNNER magazine’s founder Christian Neuhauser ten years ago.

On Thursday, July 16, guests joined RoadRUNNER journalists and team members for a casual open house at the magazine’s headquarters, which was a short ride from the host hotel in Clemmons, NC. Later that evening, the group got back together for a cookout style meal, staff introductions, and a special presentation on Accident Scene Management by Kathleen Bridgewater, a nurse and certified ASM instructor. Fortunately, no one had an accident while on tour, but everyone was more prepared having listened to Kathleen’s presentation.

Twelve guided groups were off to an early start on Friday morning; half rode a western route that touched on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the other half were on a northern route that led riders through Pilot Mountain and into Virginia before coming back to the Village Inn in Clemmons. Social hour started at 6 o’clock, as did a really interesting discussion on the inner workings of GPS technology lead by Yuval Naveh, who writes a similar series in RoadRUNNER magazine. After dinner, guest speaker Uwe Krauss, shared a slideshow of photos and amazing stories from his six-year adventure across the world.

Uwe was not the only world traveler to attend the Touring Weekend; Lars Caldenhoven was also on site for a round table discussion about traveling in South America on Saturday evening. Like Uwe, Lars is a tour operator for Blue Rim Tours. He leads touring groups through Peru where he has been living and riding for the past 14 years. After chatting with Lars, guests enjoyed dinner and drinks at the hotel before Florian and Sarah Neuhauser drew tickets for the raffle drawing. There were over 40 prizes in total including Shoei helmets, trip packages from tourism departments across the country, Bridgestone tires, luggage from RKA, and more of the gear and gadgets that us motorcyclists love!

The weather in North Carolina was hot, but the skies were clear, and all 250 riders experienced two fun and safe tours in RoadRUNNER’s very own backyard.

Now, where should the Touring Weekend be held next year?
