2015 KTM 1290 Super Adventure: More Power, More Comfort

2015 KTM 1290 Super Adventure: More Power, More ComfortFor at least the past year the motorcycle world has been raving about KTM’s 1190 Adventure and Adventure R models. Buyers and motorcycle journalists alike have taken to the bike’s combination of power, comfort, handling, and versatility as well as the R version’s off-road prowess. All of the Adventure’s success hasn’t gone to KTM’s head—the company is obviously not content to simply bask in the glow of so many positive reviews. Instead, they’ve announced a brand new, even more powerful motorcycle to the Adventure series called the 1290 Super Adventure.

The Super Adventure borrows the 1,301cc V-twin from the 1290 Super Duke R hooligan machine introduced last year. However, instead of the Duke’s 180 horsepower, the Super Adventure’s mill has been detuned down to 160 and, in KTM’s words they have “optimized the engine characteristic for super enduro duty with some extra flywheel mass.” Luxury is one of the buzzwords for the Super Adventure, and the list of creature comforts is certainly long with a new, one-hand adjustable windshield, heated seat and grips, and much more.

Modern adventure bikes probably have more computing power than NASA had when they landed on the moon, and the Super Adventure seems to take this trend to the next level. The 1290 gets KTM’s lean angle sensing ABS and stability control, a bevy of riding and power modes, and some new optional features like Hill Hold Control, which makes starting from a standstill on an incline easier.

As much as we’ve loved the 1190 Adventure, we are certainly looking forward to trying out its new big brother.
