2014 BMW R 1200 GS AdventureWell we knew it was coming and now it’s here. With the introduction of the new air/water cooled R 1200 GS earlier this year, it was only a matter of time before BMW’s big-bore enduro got the Adventure treatment. The 2014 Adventure starts out with the same air/water cooled 1,170cc boxer twin, six-speed transmission, and left hand shaft drive and swing arm of the standard GS and adds a heavier flywheel, an almost eight-gallon aluminum fuel tank, and revised suspension. That suspension gets a 20-millimeter increase in travel both fore and aft, and the overall ride height goes up 10 millimeters. The trailing arm geometry has also been modified to improve handling. Other changes specific to the Adventure model include updated bodywork that BMW calls “robust and masculine,” a new tilt-adjustable bench seat, a larger windshield and air flaps, enduro footrests, adjustable and beefed up foot levers, and an engine and tank guard. ABS and ASC (Automatic Stability Control) are standard with two riding modes (Rain and Road). More riding modes (Dynamic, Enduro, and Enduro Pro) are available with the Riding Mode Pro option. Other options are a semi-active suspension Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) as well as a plethora of accessories. U.S. pricing and availability haven’t been announced, but list price in Germany is €15,900 (about $21,500).

What do you think? Is the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure the ultimate world traveler?
