BMW to Enter Sub-500cc Market	Lately, BMW has been making it clear that they view small-displacement motorcycles and scooters as a major future growth market that they want to be a part of. Now they’ve made it official. BMW Motorrad has announced a partnership with the Indian firm TVS Motor Company to build and develop motorcycles with displacements under 500 cubic centimeters. The two companies will share in the development process, and in the end both will field their own model derivatives to their respective markets. In the words of BMW Motorrad President Stephen Schaller (pictured above), “In view of changing motorcycle markets, demographic developments and increasing environmental demands we are expanding our product range so as to tap into fresh growth potential. We have a highly experienced partner in the TVS Motor Company. This means that in the future we will be able to offer vehicles in smaller capacity classes in addition to the BMW Motorrad core segments. Various types of motorcycle are conceivable. They will meet the expectations of a BMW motorcycle in terms of riding fun as well as setting a new benchmark when it comes to stability, agility, and performance figures. I regard this long-term cooperation as an important step along the road to profitable, sustainable growth.”

For the record, TVS Motor Company is one of India’s largest and most profitable motorcycle manufacturers producing over two million two-wheelers a year for the world’s largest democracy as well as over 50 other nations.
