California’s Governor Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill 435 by Sen. Fran Pavley, D-Agoura Hills, that outlaws aftermarket motorcycle exhausts that don’t meet EPA noise and emission standards. The new law will apply to motorcycles manufactured after January 1, 2013, that don’t meet federal noise and emission rules. Motorcycles will require an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) label certifying the exhaust system doesn’t exceed 80 decibels. First offenses will cost up to $100, and subsequent violations can be up to $250.
