RailsWest Railroad MuseumAttraction: If you’re traveling the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway and happen to be a rail fan, there’s a stop in Council Bluffs, IA that you may want to check out: RailsWest Railroad Museum. The Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Passenger Depot was constructed in 1899 and is today operated as a museum and model railroad showcase; historic steam engines and rolling stock are also on display. Council Bluffs was once the eastern terminus of the transcontinental railroad. This depot, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, is the lone survivor of a half-dozen passenger depots that once dotted the Council Bluffs landscape.
