Product Review: Klim 626 Series Revener Jacket

While Klim is well known in the adventure gear market, the new 626 collection has the manufacturer throwing its hat into the urban and retro markets. The Revener’s straight-cut, military style lends itself to those looking for a sturdy, stylish, purpose-built riding jacket.

I love the look and feel of the Revener. With a “guaranteed to keep you dry” GORE-TEX shell and comfortable D30 CE Level 1 armor in the elbows, shoulders, and back, it is serious gear with a casual style. And it works well with riding jeans, as well as Klim’s Outrider pants, which are also part of the 626 collection.

I particularly like the hidden magnetic closures, and with six external and five internal pockets, storage is not an issue. The interior is not neglected, either, with plaid pocket accents and a breathable liner. The three-quarter-length jacket has an American cut and is designed for an upright riding position. The soft microfleece collar means no more chafing, even after hours spent in the saddle. Off the bike, the Revener’s low-key design is great for walking around town.

Sizing does seem a bit on the small side, as I generally wear a small (Klim included), but after trying the jacket on opted to move up to a medium, which fits my 5’8, 150-pound frame well. If you are in between sizes, go with the larger one. In the past months, I’ve been able to field test it in high temps and rain. While the jacket is designed as a four-season option and does have side vents (two intake and two exhaust), in temps above the mid-80s it does get warm. Having spent nearly an hour riding in a rain shower, I can attest that the GORE-TEX shell lives up to its promise. As with all Klim gear, mid and/or base layers are needed for cold weather riding.

Although very stylish, the classic four-pocket design is not a case of form over function and will work well for commuter, adventure, and/or long-distance touring riders. It has become my go-to jacket and will likely remain so for years to come.
