Aerostich Cousin Jeremy Jacket
Made from waxed cotton fabric, Aerostich’s Cousin Jeremy Jacket for women has been refined by more than 30 years of on-road testing. I’ve only tested it on a few rides this spring in cold to bearable temperatures and found it to be functional and well made.

With pockets, vents, armor, and details taken from the company’s well-known Roadcrafter Classic, the Cousin Jeremy features a durable 10-ounce waxed cotton outer with a second layer of waxed cotton at the elbows and shoulders for added protection. Lined with black supernyl for comfort, the jacket has removable TF3 armor in the shoulders and elbows, with room for riders to add optional back armor, which can be purchased on Aerostich’s site. I thought the padding that came with it was hard, large, and hindered my movement at the elbows, so I replaced it with D3O armor, which is smaller and more flexible. Problem solved. I opted to insert Aerostich’s back protector, because the holding pockets seem to vary by manufacturer. I prefer more armor for my back anyway.

Anyone who’s ever worn Aerostich’s gear knows that it takes breaking in, and this proved to be true for the Cousin Jeremy. It was stiff out of the box but started to soften after a handful of runs. I expect this jacket to be fully worn-in after one riding season. It has nine outer pockets and one inner, plus a large cargo pocket on the right chest and a stash pocket inside that held my iPhone. A zippered pocket on the right forearm allows for quick access to money, keys, or earplugs.

Available in a number of short, regular, and long sizes, the jacket has plenty of room in the upper arms. It has underarm vents, a zippered back vent, and an adjustable dual-height collar for airflow, but I wouldn’t recommend it for riding in hot and humid summer weather. In true Minnesotan fashion, it’s perfect for moderate temperatures. Cold-weather riding? Even better, as it offers room for layers.

It fit nicely over street clothing on late-winter/early-spring rides. For dedicated long-distance tourers, Cousin Jeremy pants are also available. The company makes a point of ensuring its customers get a perfect fit, so if you’re unsure of your sizing or curious about alterations, take a look at the contact information available on the site. Aerostich’s gear is made to last, and I know the Cousin Jeremy jacket will be in my arsenal for years to come.
