Review: BMW Women’s AirFlow Suit

women-bmw-airflow-jacketSome gear fits so well and holds up so long that when it is time to replace it, I opt to get the same exact suit. The new and improved BMW Women’s AirFlow lineup is deserving of such praise. Resistance to fading, rub fastness, color fastness to perspiration, oil repellency, and fastener abrasion resistance are just some of the quality categories BMW strives to meet.

Riding in hot and humid weather for most of the season, I prefer a suit that has plenty of airflow. The jacket’s large mesh panels let in air where it matters most: lower arms, under the arms, and from bicep to bicep across the top of the chest. With the European cut, no extra fabric flaps in the wind while I chase the curves, and the form-fitting style is also flattering when off the bike. The jacket is black but coated with a coldblack finish to prevent overheating. Included is a red cover jacket, which serves as either a windbreaker or rain jacket to be worn over. It works well in the evening when walking to dinner without anybody knowing it’s a motorcycle jacket liner. One feature that’s not very common but very useful is the built-in straps inside the back that let you carry the jacket like a backpack. Removable NP2 armor protects shoulders, elbows, and back.

The pants are nice and high in the waist and fit well while sitting or standing. A large mesh insert on the upper thigh allows air in. Velcro adjusters around the waist negate the need for a belt. As is the case with most women’s pants, however, the pockets are more decorative than anything. It’s not convenient to get belongings in and out of them, but they will hold keys and earplugs. The hips and knees are also protected by NP2 armor, and the knees are height adjustable.

The boots sport a narrow width. This gives me complete control and confidence when on the pegs. Feel for brake and shift controls is excellent. The AirTex mesh panels hold their shape and complement the suit’s appearance. Reflective strips on the heel, and shin, ankle, toe, and heel reinforcement, rounds out the boot’s safety features.
