Smokey Mountain Harley-Davidson Not Your Average Motorcycle Dealership –

Most motorcycle dealerships, particularly in predominately rural areas, are small and low-key. Not so with Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson in Maryville, Tennessee. Owner and founder Scott Maddux bought an abandoned Lowe’s Home Improvement store and converted the 60,000 square foot building into a one of a kind Harley-Davidson dealership some 11 years ago. For motorcyclists, the dealership’s proximity to the famous Tail of the Dragon, as well as a number of other fantastic motorcycling roads in Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina, make it a perfect stopping off point on a Smokey Mountain tour.

Smoky Mountain HD isn’t just about selling motorcycles, gear, and accessories, the dealership features live music on Saturday nights and the onsite restaurant, The Shed Smokehouse & Juke Joint, is always hopping. The dealership has become a hub for local motorcyclists; over 100 charity and community rides have originated from SMH-D.

Maddux says, “From the day we opened our doors, we’ve tried to create a real sense of community here. To us, it’s not about selling motorcycles. It’s about promoting a certain lifestyle and helping people experience the freedom and kinship that only comes from being a rider. I think people appreciate that.”

Do you have a local dealership that’s more than just a place to purchase parts and gear? How often do you hang out there?
