The Africa Twin is Back! The Africa Twin is Back! –

Honda’s Africa Twin is a legendary bike that’s been out of production for a dozen years or so now. The motorcycling world has missed the Dakar bred dual sport since its departure, especially with the rise in popularity of the adventure segment over the last few years. Well, the wait is almost over as Honda has announced the 2016 CRF1000L Africa Twin.

We don’t know much about the new bike, however. It’s a safe bet that the engine will be a twin (either V or parallel) displacing around 1,000cc. Honda says the bike will “redefine expectations of just what a large-capacity adventure motorcycle can and should be capable of, both on and off-road.”

The one technical detail that Honda did share is sure to be a polarizing one. The 2016 Africa Twin will have an optional Automatic Dual Clutch Transmission. According to Honda this iteration of the love it or hate it DVT “has been specifically developed and programmed to provide off-road ability.” We’ll withhold judgment until we get to try it.

Whether it has a standard transmission or the DVT, the CRF1000L is sure to be one of the most talked about and sought after bikes of 2016. We look forward to getting our hands on one.
