BMW Outfits Barcelona Police with C evolution Electric ScooterWe’ve reported before about electric two wheelers attracting the attention of various police forces around the world, perhaps most notably the LAPD’s adoption of Zero MMX patrol bikes. BMW is now getting in on the action as they recently announced the delivery of 30 new C evolution electric scooters to the police department of Barcelona, Spain. According to BMW, this marks the first time an electric scooter has been conscripted for law enforcement duties.

The police version of the C evolution is nearly identical to the standard model with the same motor/battery combination capable of 11KW of continuous output with a maximum of 35KW. For police use, BMW has added a taller windscreen for better protection as well as PA and signaling systems.

The President of BMW Group Spain, Guenther Seemann, personally delivered the 30 C evolution keys to Barcelona’s mayor Xavier Trias saying, “The delivery of this fleet is a special achievement for the BMW Group for two main reasons: it is the first fleet of electric maxi scooters worldwide to be supplied and secondly the recipient is the city of Barcelona—a role model in Europe when it comes to two-wheel mobility. At the BMW Group we believe strongly that the future of urban mobility will be shaped in the next few years by cities with minimum emissions.”

What do you think of the use of electric vehicles for law enforcement? Would you like to see your local police outfitted with battery power?
