Polaris Acquires Brammo Electric Motorcycle CompanyThe newest addition to Polaris’ ever-expanding collection of brands is the electric motorcycle manufacturer Brammo. Polaris has been invested in Brammo since 2011, but this new deal seems to fully integrate Brammo into Polaris. This will include the design and production of electric motorcycles at Polaris’ Spirit Lake facility in Iowa, which is home to Victory and Indian. Scott Wine, the company’s Chairman and CEO, says, “We have enjoyed our involvement with Brammo Motorcycles over the past three years, and our excitement about their industry-leading lithium-ion electric drivetrain technology has increased commensurate with their improvements in cost and performance. Polaris and Brammo share a goal of adding the most advanced and highest capability electric solutions to Polaris’ portfolio of leading powersports products. Today’s announcement strengthens not only Polaris’ commitment to bringing our consumers lithium-ion electric solutions, but also this partnership’s ability to continue innovating and developing leading electric drivetrain technology. We anticipate a return on these investments and believe the new alignment brings us that much closer to delivering world-class electric solutions across our products.”

Brammo, Inc. produced its first electric motorcycle, the Enertia, in 2009. Since then the company has steadily improved their technology culminating in their current state of the art, the Brammo Emplulse R, which features a conventional six speed transmission—a unique feature for an electric bike.
