RoadRUNNER’s Bucket List Roads: Utah Route 12 Scenic Byway This route is a two-lane byway through some of the most iconic red rock scenery in the West. Parks along the way include: Capitol Reef National Park, Anasazi Indian Village State Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Car and Driver magazine reportedly rated this route as one of the top ten scenic routes in America.

Scenery: Multicolored buttes, mesas, and canyons.

Curves: Except for a few straight stretches, the road twists, turns, descends, and climbs over a remote landscape with elevations that range from 4,000 to 9,000 feet.

Traffic: Generally light, few trucks

Distance: Approximately 124 miles

Time Required: 3 to 4 hours, excluding Bryce Canyon National Park and other possible stops along the route, services available in Escalante, UT.

Technical Difficulty: Moderate to challenging.
